Osmium APEX Mineral

Osmium (Os #76) is the next element on the periodic table for my APEX mineral collection.

Wikipedia Osmium
Osmium Minerals - There are only a few Osmium minerals and these are very rare and small in size.

Osmium is the densest naturally occurring element.   It is usually found as an alloy in platinum ores since it rather unreactive at ambient conditions.  Osmium is the rarest element in the Earths crust.  Less than a ton of Osmium is produced each year.

Osmium is one of the six Platinum Group Metals.  These are precious metals which have similar physical and chemical properties, and tend to occur together in the same mineral deposits.

Osmium is primarily alloyed with other metals.  It is never used alone since its oxide is very volatile and extremely toxic.
Osmium was unknown until modern times.
Osmium has no known biological role.
